Description

Handwoven by Berber artisans in Morocco's Atlas Mountains, this piece works entirely in undyed ivory wool. There is no colour and no contrast — the whole design is carved into the surface itself, with blocks and rectangles set slightly lower than the plush field around them so the pattern reveals itself in shadow and texture rather than in line.

The effect changes through the day. Morning light flattens it into a calm cream expanse; late afternoon rakes across the pile and brings the whole geometry forward. Each knot is tied by hand from natural sheep wool, and the small shifts in tone are simply the fleece as it came off the sheep.
